Jacob Cummings CFP®, MBA
Financial Advisor
My Background
I grew up in the Overland Park area of Kansas City and attended Bishop Miege High School. Growing up, my family ran a small business and I witnessed first-hand how difficult it can be to achieve multiple, competing financial goals with limited or varying resources. This is where I developed a passion for educating people on how to effectively and efficiently manage their money and other financial resources to help achieve their personal goals, despite the adversities of everyday life.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree (BSBA) from the University of Central Missouri with a double major in Marketing and Management, followed by my Master’s Degree in Business (MBA) from Rockhurst University. I earned the designation of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in September of 2013. I specialize in retirement accumulation and income planning, investment planning, estate and tax strategy planning, along with working with business owners. I have been serving clients since 2006 and joined nVision Wealth in the summer of 2013.
My Approach & Philosophy
To me, as a financial advisor the most important thing I can do is get to know my clients on a personal level. This includes where they work and what they do, income level, family size, and expenses. It is also important to understand expectations, threshold for risk, and what they would like to accomplish and avoid. I work with my clients in a number of ways. Investment management, insurance reviews, or a full comprehensive plan are examples of how I can help.
As an investment manager, my philosophy is pretty simple. I believe in transparency – you should always know what investments you own and why and what your costs are, which should be as low as possible. And I believe in taking what the economy gives us by looking at the big picture. For example, if some sectors are in favor we will allocate more towards them and avoid sectors that are not as in favor. I like to think of it as “common sense diversification”. And in general, is it more appropriate to seek growth or be more defensive? This, of course, is all relative to each individual client’s needs, as everyone is different.
My Personal Life
My wife, Jenni, and I keep busy raising our two boys, Caiden and Lincoln. I regularly volunteer with my sons’ Boy Scout troop, serves as the Head Coach for Caiden’s competitive baseball team, and Assistant Coach for Lincoln’s baseball team. When my family isn’t busy with Boy Scouts and baseball, we enjoy camping, outdoor activities, and watching movies together. I also look forward to playing golf with friends and like to read books.
